Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Sport and Recreation: What is the current level of compliance, if any, within the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, with NZ Government Web Standards, which require public sector websites to be accessible?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised the Sport Integrity Commission website has been built with WCAG accessibility guidelines and the NZ Government Web Standard in mind. This includes presenting key documentation in alternative formats for broader accessibility and plain language is used. Online learning has been tested with disabled users, and the Commission continues to design online learning according to accessibility principles. I am advised Sport New Zealand is working to meet the NZ Government Web Standards, Sport New Zealand has signed the NZ Government Accessibility Charter and reports progress to the Ministry of Social Development. Sport New Zealand owns four websites, and as at 18 February 2026, Sport New Zealand had completed automated accessibility spot checks of its public website homepages as an initial indicator. These checks showed varying levels of automated errors and do not confirm full accessibility or WCAG conformance, which requires broader and manual testing. Work is underway to address identified issues and improve accessibility across sites.
