5178 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Corrections: What is the current level of compliance, if any, within the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, with NZ Government Web Standards, which require public sector websites to be accessible?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that since 2023, Corrections has participated in the Department of Internal Affairs-led Central Web Accessibility Checker (CWAC) programme which provides regular, automated auditing of accessibility compliance across Corrections’ websites.
I am further advised that as of September 2025, the Corrections had an overall ‘CWAC score’ of 66. The most recent CWAC report for Corrections, issued on 17 December 2025, identified 14 unique accessibility issues affecting 1,151 pages across five websites.
A programme of work is underway to address these issues and lift Corrections’ compliance with New Zealand Government Web Standards.
