5159 (2024). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister responsible for RMA Reform: What is the policy intent of excluding items 12 and 13 of Schedule 4 of the Crown Minerals Act 1991 from the application of clause 18(h) of the Fast-track Approvals Bill?

Hon Chris Bishop: Land in clauses 12 and 13 of Schedule 4 of the Crown Minerals Act (related to the Coromandel Peninsula) will continue to have existing restrictions on mining activities. However, the Coromandel Peninsula will benefit by still qualifying for non-mining fast track projects. Excluding non-mining projects from fast-track on land listed in clauses 12 and 13 would unnecessarily prevent the Coromandel district from potentially benefitting from the types of critical infrastructure and development that the Fast-Track Approvals Bill is trying to facilitate.
