5111 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police
Written Question
Published date: 18 Apr 2024
5111 (2024). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister of Police: What changes, if any, have been made to the delegations in the Police portfolio between 20 March 2024 and 1 April 2024?
Hon Mark Mitchell: The Member can view the list of delegations on the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet's website: https://www.dpmc.govt.nz/sites/default/files/2024-03/delegations-associate-ministers-20-march-2024.pdf
I have not changed any of Minister Costello's delegations since they were made in two letters to Minister Costello outlining her delegations. My first letter was on 25 January and transferred responsibility for matters relating to Constable Matthew Hunt due to a personal connection. My second letter was sent on 30 January, which contained the substantive delegations outlined on the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet website.
As the latter relates to the delivery of 500 new Police, the following excerpt may be of use to the Member:
Assistance with the proposed Government investment of 500 additional constabulary staff, including matters related to recruitment and retention.
This delegation means you will have responsibility for supporting me with:
- Policy development, funding, and any necessary Cabinet approval in relation to the additional constabulary investment, including providing direction on phasing, outcomes from investment, and budget implications.
- Monitoring progress towards achieving the 500 additional constabulary staff, including allocations into additional Youth Aid Officers, as outlined in the Coalition Agreement.
I refer the Member to paragraphs 2.35 to 2.40 of the Cabinet Manual, which deal with the relationship between Ministers and Associate Ministers, for more information.
