5059 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Would he consider increasing the minimum size limit of Snapper for commercial fishers; if not, why not?

Hon Shane Jones: I am advised that the minimum size limit of snapper for commercial fishers is required to be reviewed under the new landing and discard rules arising from the Fisheries Amendment Act 2022. The review will consider the purpose of the return of snapper below the minimum size limit (as currently set or otherwise) and the likelihood of survival of snapper returned to the sea.
