4988 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister agree with the founder of Auckland’s The Sleep Store that New Zealand should formally recognise the European Union and US safety standards for baby carriers?
Hon Scott Simpson: I am aware of views expressed by retailers, including the founder of The Sleep Store, regarding the recognition of overseas safety standards. New Zealand suppliers are already able to use international standards, including those from the European Union and the United States. At this time, I have not taken a position on formally recognising specific overseas standards for baby carriers. Any future consideration of regulatory change would need to be informed by advice from officials on impacts for consumer safety, suppliers, and alignment with our broader product safety framework.
