4983 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: What, if anything, has the Government done to assist incorporated societies that have not re-registered to do so before the 5 April 2026 deadline?

Hon Scott Simpson: The Companies Office has run an extensive information and education campaign and have developed resources to assist with the reregistration process. They have; sent regular letters and emails informing societies of the changes, webinars, newsletters, presentations, surveys and social media campaigns. Resources have also been developed through the ‘Law Changes’ hub on the Companies Office website, including checklists, fact sheets, and videos. Most notably, a ‘Constitution Builder’ tool has been developed. Societies can use this tool to revise or create their constitution. The Companies Office has also engaged with organisations with close links to societies, such as Sport New Zealand, Citizens Advice Bureau, law firms, unions, body corporate management companies and banks. Additionally, between now and 5 April 2026, the Companies Office: • Will call all societies that have started the reregistration process but not completed it • Will continue the social media campaign • Will continue to engage with the banks who are also reaching out to their customers that are societies • Update web content • And have already sent letters/emails to all societies that have not reregistered
