4945 (2025). Hon Carmel Sepuloni to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: How much higher, or lower, is the amount of people currently on jobseeker compared to what was forecast for this period, expressed as a percentage?
Hon Louise Upston: The latest benefit forecast was released as part of the Treasury’s Half Year Economic and Fiscal Update (HYEFU) on 17 December 2024. At HYEFU 2024, Jobseeker Support numbers were forecast to be around 215,900 in January 2025. In January 2025, there were around 214,600 people receiving Jobseeker Support. This is 1,300 people, or 0.6 percent, below the forecast from HYEFU 2024. This is also my response to written parliamentary question 4946 (2025).
