4927 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Is there a quantum of fatalities or serious injuries that would, in the Minister’s view, constitute sufficient harm to justify mandatory regulation of corded window coverings, and if so, what is that quantum?
Hon Scott Simpson: Decisions about whether to introduce mandatory product safety standards must consider a broad range of factors, including the nature and severity of the harm, the effectiveness of existing voluntary measures, international regulatory developments, and what product safety standard should be adopted to prevent or reduce the risk of injury, if any.
