4837 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology: How much, if any, did the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, spend fixing database security breaches in the 2023 calendar year?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: As Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, I have no responsibility for any government departments. With regard to agencies, Crown entities and any other bodies under the Science, Innovation and Technology portfolio, I have been advised that no expenditure was incurred on database security breaches remediation in 2023 by Bioeconomy Science Institute, Earth Sciences New Zealand, Public Health and Forensic Science, and Research and Education Advanced Network New Zealand. With respect to Callaghan Innovation (CI), costs for resolving any database security breaches experienced by Callaghan Innovation were covered under baseline cyber security assurance capabilities and did not require additional expenditure.
