4809 (2024). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister of Immigration: What is the timeframe, if any, for removing the median wage requirements from Skilled Migrant Category visas?
Hon Erica Stanford: In line with our coalition commitments, we are considering further changes to Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) settings to ensure they are better focused on facilitating the right mix of skilled temporary migrants.
At this stage, and subject to wider Immigration work programme priorities, I intend to return to Cabinet later this year with further opportunities to improve the AEWV, including looking to replace the median wage with a more robust labour market test.
It is worth noting that the planned median wage increase (from $29.66 to $31.61 an hour) for the AEWV has been paused, while I seek advice on an alternative to the median wage threshold in the AEWV.
