4766 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What changes account for the increase in planned care delivery in the year ending 31 December 2023, compared to the previous year?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that in spite of increasing acute demand and a reduced proportion of planned care bed days over the last four years, districts and regions have been working to increase planned care delivery year-on-year since the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic. Initiatives that have boosted planned care delivery compared to the previous year include optimising the utilisation of available capacity; outsourcing; improved oversight and weekly monitoring with regions, and improved access to data, modelling and understanding forward delivery requirements to manage incoming volumes.
