4648 (2025). Scott Willis to the Minister for Energy: What is the number of residences, if any, that had their power disconnected in 2024 for failing to pay bills, and how does this compare with the previous 5 years?
Hon Simon Watts: I am advised that the Electricity Authority gathers data from electricity retailers on the number of Residential Installation Control Points (ICPs) that have been disconnected for non-payment for a period of more than 24 hours by retailers. In these figures a consumer that is disconnected multiple times within the reporting period will have each counted as a separate disconnection. Disconnection figures are only for customers on a post-pay plan. This data can be found here
