4451 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Associate Minister of Education: What child protection training, if any, is provided to early childhood educators and early childhood centres, by whom and with what frequency?
Hon David Seymour: Early Learning service providers are responsible for ensuring that their staff have access to guidelines and opportunities for training to develop their knowledge and understanding of child protection matters.
The Ministry of Education, alongside Te Rito Maioha Early Childhood New Zealand and Safeguarding Children, has developed a digital child protection resource specifically for the early learning sector that is publicly available on the Ministry website, and can be found here: //www.education.govt.nz/early-childhood/.
Early Learning Services child protection policies require an organisation to make an ongoing commitment to appropriate child protection training, however there is no prescribed timeframe for how often training is to be provided.
