4391 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery: Will GeoNet, the National Seismic Hazards Model and/or the 24/7 GeoHazard Monitoring Centre need to reduce their operational capacities, given the decrease in annual operating funding between 2024/25 and 2027/28; and if so, what operational capacities will be impacted?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am not aware of a reduction in operational capacity for GeoNet or the delivery of the National Seismic Hazard Model and/or the National Geohazards Monitoring Centre.
The operational capacity required for GeoNet to deliver the National Seismic Hazard Model and/or the National Geohazards Monitoring Centre is a decision for the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Limited (GNS) Board. However, this responsibility will shift to the governing authority for the recently announced Public Research Organisation (PRO) for Earth sciences, including climate and hazards resilience.
