4390 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery: Will GeoNet, the National Seismic Hazards Model and/or the 24/7 GeoHazard Monitoring Centre experience any service degradation, given the decrease in annual operating funding between 2024/25 and 2027/28; and if so, what level of degradation is expected?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am not aware of any plans for service degradation in relation to the GeoNet National Seismic Hazard Model and/or the National Geohazards Monitoring Centre.
I am aware that decisions from planning that is currently underway may result in changes to the shape of GeoNet and how it delivers services in the future. These decisions will be made by the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Limited (GNS) Board, and in time will shift to the governing authority for the recently announced Public Research Organisation (PRO) for Earth sciences, including climate and hazards resilience.
