4388 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery

4388 (2025). Camilla Belich to the Minister for Emergency Management and Recovery: In response to the Minister’s comment in the Herald, that “Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell told the Herald Nema was now working with GeoNet and GNS Science to ensure those functions were “resourced appropriately”", is GeoNet currently resourced appropriately; if not, why not?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I have been advised that GeoNet is planning for the delivery of its programmes within its budget profile. This planning may result in changes to the shape of GeoNet and the way its programmes are delivered as referred to in my earlier reply to Written Parliamentary Question 1425 (2024). Currently, the GNS Board is responsible for these planning decisions. However, this responsibility will shift to the governing authority for the recently announced Public Research Organisation (PRO) for Earth sciences, including climate and hazards resilience.
