4332 (2025). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology: What, if any, justification can be provided for the disestablishment of animal biotechnology at AgResearch?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that, as a Crown Research Institute, this is a matter for AgResearch’s independent Board of Directors. Under the Crown Research Institutes Act 1992, the Boards’ statutory responsibilities include operating in a financially responsible manner so that AgResearch maintains its financial viability while fulfilling its purpose.
