4268 (2025). Rachel Boyack to the Minister of Transport: Does the consultation on speed limit changes on SH6 in Marybank and Atawhai apply to the announcement on 29 January 2025, or will it apply to "future speed management planning on these sections" as stated by NZTA in the Nelson Mail article dated 7 February 2025?

Hon Chris Bishop: The transitional provision under the Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2024 (the Rule) requires speed limits on urban connectors, such as the two sections of State Highway 6 (SH6) in Atawhai/Marybank, to be reversed back to the previous, higher speed limits by 1 July 2025. However, NZTA can start targeted speed limit reviews prior to 1 July 2025 at this location, including public consultation, if warranted due to the local terrain and/or community sentiment. NZTA acknowledges the concerns of the local community regarding the auto-reversal requirement for this location and it is now considering options that are possible under the Rule to start a review before 1 July 2025. Any changes to speed limits as a result of such reviews could only be made after 1 July 2025.
