4254 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Police: How many, if any, of the 2769 firearms reported as stolen over the past five years have been recovered by police?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that between 2019 and 2023, 62 firearms item records were updated in Police’s National Intelligence Application database that indicate Police have recovered them. However, the actual number of stolen firearms recovered will exceed 62, as it relies on both the recording of identifier information, and the ability to link specific item records. This information is drawn from an operational database and is this subject to change as new information is recorded by Police, therefore the data in this response is as at 3 March 2024.
