4250 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Vocational Education: How much, if any, did Te Pukenga ask for in the latest investment plan and how much money did the Tertiary Education Commission allocate?
Hon Penny Simmonds: I have been advised by the Tertiary Education Commission that Te Pūkenga was indicatively allocated $758.46 million for the 2025 calendar year. They requested a further $16.6 million across seven funds. Te Pūkenga received final funding, for 2025, of $801.90 million. The TEC approved additional funding of $1,120,428 across four of the funds requested (Intensive Literacy and Numeracy, English Language Tuition, Refugee English and Youth Guarantee), as part of their Investment Plan submissions. The remaining requests for additional funding (Delivery on the NZQF at Levels 3 to 7 (non-degree), Delivery on the NZQF at Levels 1 and 2 and ACE in TEIs) were declined at this time. TEC will consider future changes in the total funding during 2025 as enrolment data becomes available as part of their processes across the entire Tertiary sector. Further adjustments between the indicative and final allocations above relate to rate changes which were approved through Budget 2024 being applied after indicative allocations were published.
