4237 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: What actions, if any, will the Minister take to involve employers in identifying and addressing workplace stress?

Hon Brooke van Velden: Advice I have received from WorkSafe New Zealand is that employers have the primary duty of care to manage risks to health and safety in work, including mental health. WorkSafe has developed Good Practice Guidelines to assist employers in assessing and responding to work-related stress. WorkSafe works with sectors in which risk exposure to stress is highest. This can include sector specific development of information to support employers in the identification, assessment, and management of work-related stress. I will be undertaking public consultation on health and safety reform later in the year.
