4235 (2025). Rachel Boyack to the Minister for Vocational Education: What advice, if any, has she received regarding the potential closure of Te Auaha?
Hon Penny Simmonds: I was advised by the chief executive of Te Pūkenga on 28 January 2025 that Te Pūkenga would be making announcements about its financial improvement work, and that this would include announcing that Te Pūkenga is considering the closure of Te Auaha campus at the end of 2025. It is important to note that no final decisions have yet been made on the future of programmes that are currently delivered at the Te Auaha campus or the campus itself.
For completeness, I received a range of advice from the TEC in 2024 on the financial improvement work being undertaken by Te Pūkenga with support from external specialist help. This included advice on the profitability of different programmes and campuses, including Te Auaha. However, decisions about which programmes and campuses to retain or close are operational matters and the responsibility of Te Pūkenga’s council.
