4165 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Can the Minister or his officials confirm if indeed 67,000 units of potentially asbestos laced children’s sand products have been sold and reached New Zealand households and schools?

Hon Scott Simpson: The total number of units recalled in New Zealand due to the potential presence of asbestos in children’s play and craft sands stands at 23,109. The figure reduced in December when Kmart concluded the precautionary recall on their blue, green and pink Magic sand products.
