4147 (2024). Celia Wade-Brown to the Minister of Conservation: What advice, if any, has the Minister received about the amount of government funding that will be required to meet the goal set by then-Prime Minister John Key in 2016 for New Zealand to be predator free by 2050?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation has not provided me with advice regarding the amount of government funding required to meet the Predator Free 2050 goal.
However, Predator Free 2050 Ltd have informed me via their Briefing to the Incoming Minister 2023 that they estimate the cost to achieve the goal by 2050 to be approximately $8 – $10b ($300 - $400 per hectare) based on current tools and techniques.
