4122 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister agree with Consumer NZ head of research and advocacy who said that regulation for corded window coverings is "a really straightforward thing to do", and if so, why isn't he doing it?
Hon Scott Simpson: I do not agree that introducing mandatory regulation for corded internal window coverings is a “straightforward” matter. Before making any decision, it is important to consider the full evidence base, the regulatory impacts, and the practical implications for suppliers, households, and enforcement agencies. This is not a simple or immediate process. I have asked for further advice from officials, and I will carefully consider that advice.
