4072 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: Does the Minister agree with the most recent coroner report, released this week, which recommends stronger regulatory intervention on corded blinds; if so, will the Government act on these recommendations?
Hon Scott Simpson: I agree with the concerns highlighted in the most recent coroner’s report regarding the serious risks posed by corded internal window coverings. I am carefully considering the appropriate response, and I have asked my officials for further advice. In the meantime, I strongly encourage households and suppliers to follow Product Safety New Zealand’s guidance, which recommends choosing cordless products where possible or ensuring that any existing cords are safely secured using tension devices or other measures to prevent accessible loops.
