4043 (2026). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: How much funding, if any, was held by Health New Zealand nationally as a contingency, reserve, or centrally managed unallocated balance for each of the financial years 2022/23, 2023/24, 2024/25, and 2025/26?

Hon Simeon Brown: As the Member will be aware, Health New Zealand did not hold any national funding as a contingency, reserve, or centrally managed unallocated balance in FY2022/23 or FY2023/24. As the Member will also be aware, following this period, the financial performance of Health New Zealand required significant rectification – including from a position where $28 billion was being managed on a single Excel spreadsheet under the previous government – and the implementation of improved financial systems and disciplines.
