4008 (2026). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: What changes, if any, have been made to Corrections guidance or practice on when and how staff should make a report of concern to Oranga Tamariki about a child’s safety?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that in 2025, Corrections refreshed their child protection guidance with a focus on ensuring it was clear and easy to understand, and includes when and how staff should make a report of concern. I am further advised that additional guidance has also been drafted in consultation with Oranga Tamariki and focuses on the type and level of information Corrections staff should include and when a matter should be escalated to Police. This is due to be published by 28 February 2026.
