3981 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Finance: Does she agree with the Prime Minister’s statement “Well, look, it's- I mean, it's not ideal. It's not what we ideally want. And we want to be able to do it and be able to pay people weekly. The systems don't support doing that…” and if so, what advice, by title and date, was this statement based on?
Hon Nicola Willis: Yes. The Prime Minister’s statement was based on advice outlined in a FamilyBoost paper provided to ECO on 20 March 2024 and Cabinet on 25 March 2024.
The advice outlined that data on household ECE fees is not currently collected by, or exchanged between, government agencies. Because agencies are not getting the information necessary for Inland Revenue to calculate the size of those payments, currently FamilyBoost cannot be administered as originally envisioned.
