3937 (2026). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Has any work been undertaken by the Ministry of Health or Health New Zealand since 27 November 2023 on any new policies that would pay nurses’ and midwives’ student loan repayments?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that in 2024 Health New Zealand expanded its existing Voluntary Bonding Scheme for qualified health professionals to include more midwives. This provides New Zealand trained midwives who graduated from 2022 onwards with additional student loan repayments, or income, if they have worked in New Zealand for several years.
