3924 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How much carpet, if any, has Kāinga Ora purchased since 1 July 2025 and how does that figure breakdown by carpet fibre?
Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that it purchased 37,059 square metres of wool carpet from 1 July 2025 to 31 December 2025. In the same period, it purchased 90,829 square metres of nylon carpet.
Nylon carpet is used primarily for maintenance work, where damaged areas are replaced with the same carpet type already installed to ensure consistency throughout the home.
Kāinga Ora will use wool carpet in existing homes if the whole house requires recarpeting.
These purchases have been made by both maintenance and build partners. We only track spend through our contract supplier - Bremworth for wool carpet and Godfrey Hirst for nylon.
