Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress has been made in the last quarter (October to December 2023) to ‘Develop a monitoring framework for the cancer plan that includes an explicit focus on equity’ under Outcome 2: New Zealanders experience equitable cancer outcomes, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that between October and December 2023, planning continued to determine the shape and form of the next State of Cancer Report (SoCR) which is a snapshot of cancer data that serves as a benchmark from which we can monitor progress against the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan. The SoCR identifies population groups most affected by inequities in the cancer care system of Aotearoa. The data in this report informs the Agency's equity led approach to improving outcomes across the continuum of cancer care.
