Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Associate Minister of Health: What progress has been made in the last quarter (October to December 2023) to ‘Co-design stop smoking services with young Māori women’ under Outcome 3: New Zealanders have fewer cancers, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Casey Costello: I am advised that no progress has been made on co-designing stop smoke services with Māori women between October and December 2023. There are already 25 stop smoking services across the country that provide widely accessible, evidence-based smoking cessation support. Furthermore, Ka Pū te Ruha, ka Hao te Rangatahi – Good practice guidance was written for stop smoking providers to work in more responsive ways with young wāhine Māori to quit smoking. Support is provided to all people who smoke, but priority groups are young wāhine Māori, Māori, and Pacific peoples.
