3666 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How many staff were made redundant, if any, in the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies between 27 November 2023 and 7 February 2025, broken down by district, ethnicity, gender, and any other socioeconomic variable that is collected?

Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) that between 27 November 2023 and 7 February 2025, 50 employees have left the Department due to being made redundant. Of these: • 46 employees were based in Wellington, two in Auckland, and two in Christchurch; • 30 employees were female, 19 male, and one has not provided their gender information; and • Three employees were Asian, 32 European, six Māori, three Pasifika, and eight unknown, noting that employees may choose to identify with up to two ethnic groups.
