3609 (2024). Hon Willie Jackson to the Minister for Media and Communications: What advice, if any, has the Minister received regarding the fair digital news bargaining bill that it is a tax?
Hon Melissa Lee: The titles and dates of papers I have received in my capacity as Minister for Media and Communications from Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage are proactively released monthly and are available at: https://www.mch.govt.nz/publications/advice-ministers. Some titles may be excluded from proactive release on the basis that it is not in the public interest to release them at this time. I refer the Member to my officials’ Briefing to the Incoming Minister (BIM) which references the Fair Digital News Bargaining Bill. The BIM is publicly available here: https://www.mch.govt.nz/publications/briefing-incoming-minister-media-and-communications-2023 I also receive advice on an ad hoc basis from my agencies and from interested stakeholders. Unlike official advice such as briefings and aides-memoires, ad hoc advice is not centrally located, or easily collatable in the limited timeframe provided for responding to Written Parliamentary Questions. If the member can provide more specific parameters to their question, such as a date range, or specific source of information received from, then I may be able to assist further.
