3579 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Climate Change: What climate adaptation or climate resilience plans or proposals, if any, has the Minister's department received from local governments since 27 November 2023, listed by date and local government?
Hon Simon Watts: As legislation currently stands, there is no requirement for climate adaptation plans or climate resilience plans to be sent to the Ministry for the Environment (the Ministry). Since 27 November 2023, the Ministry has formally received the following plans and proposals of relevance: 13 March 2025: Dunedin City Council sent the Ministry advance copies of South Dunedin Futures reports and supporting documents. Documents included: (i) South Dunedin Risk Assessment, (ii) 7 Potential Adaptation Futures for South Dunedin, (iii) Council media release, and (iv) Council FAQs. In addition, the Ministry has co-funded multiple projects through the Contaminated Sites Remediation Fund, Contaminated Sites and Vulnerable Landfills Fund and the Waste Minimisation Fund where the project activities may contribute to climate resilience or adaptation. These projects along with the rest of the waste investment portfolio are available at: mfenz.shinyapps.io/waste_wmf_app/.
