3563 (2026). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: Do Māori Medium students receive the same level of government funded structured literacy support as a student in English Medium would; if not, why not?
Hon Erica Stanford: Māori Medium and English Medium pathways operate within different pedagogical, linguistic, and resource contexts. As a result, funding is not directly comparable between the two pathways. The Ministry of Education is not able to attribute an equivalent “per student” cost for structured literacy supports in either Māori Medium or English Medium.
