3401 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Associate Minister of Transport: What consultations did the Minister’s departments, if any, open on the week beginning 27 January 2025 with employees around any changes to employment roles, employment numbers and any other employment conditions, and how many roles were affected?
Hon James Meager: I am advised that at the Ministry of Transport, Maritime NZ, and Transport Accident Investigation Commission, no consultations were opened with employees in the week beginning 27 January 2025. I am advised that the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (which includes the Aviation Security Service) (CAA) did not open any consultations during the week beginning 27 January 2025. However, the CAA opened a change proposal for consultation on 24 October 2024. The consultation period closed on 15 November 2024. The final decisions were communicated on 31 January 2025. The changes result in 122 positions being disestablished. Most positions disestablished are due to reduced layers of management or reducing duplication in back-office positions. A total of 117 new positions have been created, including an increase in positions at the frontline. The changes make no changes to employment conditions.
