3394 (2025). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Agriculture: What compounds, if any, have been identified as suitable for use in slow-release delivery systems for methane inhibition in livestock, that have not yet been approved for use in New Zealand?

Hon Todd McClay: Internationally and in New Zealand, research is occurring on a range of methane inhibiting compounds to determine their suitability for delivery in pastoral based systems. Table 10.1: Technology for reducing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, in New Zealand’s second emissions reduction plan 2026–30, lists a number of those. New Zealand actively monitors developments in this area.
