3325 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: How much, if any, did the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, spend on the carbon neutral government programme in the 2025 calendar year?
Hon Brooke van Velden: Department of Internal Affairs: I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs that budgeting and spend is reported by financial year and that $247,000 was spent on the Carbon Neutral Government Programme in the 2024/25 financial year. Film Classification Office (Office): The Office is not covered by the programme. However, the costs of these activities are marginal and are not budgeted separately as they are embedded within its business-as-usual activities. Lotto NZ: As an autonomous crown entity, Lotto NZ is not required to report under the carbon neutral government programme and therefore has not incurred any costs for the programme specifically. Lotto NZ is voluntarily certified as Toitū net carbonzero. Details of its approach are published in its Integrated Report. As a lottery, the organisation does not produce significant emissions compared to more energy-intensive sectors. Fire and Emergency New Zealand: I am advised that Fire and Emergency New Zealand spent $14,330.89 excluding GST on the Carbon Neutral Government Programme in the 2025 calendar year. Note this is also my answer to WPQ 3329 (2026).
