Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Food Safety: Has any cost-benefit analysis been undertaken regarding the proposal to transfer meat inspection responsibilities from AsureQuality to meat processing companies, and if so, what is the date and title of this analysis and what conclusions, if any, did it reach?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Consultation on the draft Animal Products Notices closed on 23 January 2026, and the Ministry for Primary Industries are currently considering all submissions and feedback received, including any matters relating to costs, before making final decisions in early 2026.
