Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister for Food Safety: If the proposal to transfer meat inspection responsibilities from AsureQuality to meat processing companies goes ahead, is there any possible impact on wages and working conditions for those who work in these roles, and if so, what are they?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Consultation on the draft Animal Products Notices closed on 23 January 2026, and the Ministry for Primary Industries are currently considering all submissions and feedback received, including any matters relating to workforce impacts, before making final decisions in early 2026.
