3145 (2024). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister for Disability Issues: Do the changes to Purchasing Rules and Equipment and Modification Services announced on 18 March align with the Enabling Good Lives Approach; if so, how?

Hon Penny Simmonds: The Enabling Good Lives approach is based on an ethic of right relationship. I have already expressed publicly my dissatisfaction with the way that these changes have been communicated, and the department has apologised. These changes reflect the fiscal situation Whaikaha is in right now. I as Minister, and the Ministry, will work with the community when making final decisions on broader changes to policy settings to put the system on a more sustainable financial footing. I expect those changes to contribute to advancing the EGL approach.
