3134 (2024). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister of Health: How many carers are there across New Zealand and how many carers, if any. receive carer support through Te Whatu Ora?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised there are approximately 430,000 carers in New Zealand. I am further advised that there are 26,251 clients eligible for Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora-funded carer support. Because not all eligible clients necessarily access that support, Health New Zealand does not have a count of the number of carers currently receiving carer support payments.
