3101 (2025). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister of Immigration: What checks, if any, does Immigration NZ make when determining whether to grant visas to individuals who serve or have served in the Israeli Defence Force?
Hon Erica Stanford: Israel has compulsory military service and many Israeli nationals have served, or serve, in the Israeli Defence Force. Most Israeli nationals visiting New Zealand will be able to do so under our visa waiver arrangement with Israel which only requires an ETA. Information about military service is not requested as part of an ETA. Where an Israeli national requires a visa, I am advised that Immigration New Zealand assesses visa applications against the relevant immigration instructions and the information provided with the application. Each application is assessed individually and if further information is required it will be requested from an applicant.
