3021 (2026). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What retention targets, if any, have been set for trainees completing the rural hospital medicine and specialist GP training programme, and how, if at all, will retention be measured and reported?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that there are no specific retention targets set for trainees completing the rural hospital medicine and specialist GP training programme. However, retention remains a key focus for this Government as we continue to strengthen the health workforce. That's why supporting training programmes such as this are all part of our plan to ensure New Zealanders have access to timely, quality care when they need it.
