3013 (2024). Darleen Tana to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: Is he aware, that the South Taranaki Bight is a foraging ground for Blue Whales and their juveniles; if so, is he concerned that Trans-Tasman Resources want to "extract up 50 million tonnes of the seabed each year for 35 years in shallow water between 22km and 36km off Pātea."?

Hon Shane Jones: Yes. I believe it is possible to enable minerals and mining projects to go ahead, in an environmentally responsible manner, boosting regional opportunities and jobs and ensuring we have a secure supply of fuels and minerals to power our economy.
