3004 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Transport: Has the Minister received any advice on alternative freight routes instead of the SH2 between Gisborne and Whakatāne, including coastal shipping; if so, what options were presented?

Hon Chris Bishop: I have not received any advice or briefing papers on alternative options for freight routes. NZTA advises that while an earlier assessment considered an alternative land corridor, it was deemed not economical.
