2996 (2025). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Transport: How, if at all, does NZTA ensure that the needs of small, remote communities are considered in evaluations that assess the economic viability of replacing bridges such as Pauariki Bridge on Hikuwai Road and Gray’s Bridge on Bruce Road, particularly when these bridges serve essential local access?
Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that NZTA is a co investor and is tasked with ensuring value for money decision making, for all new Zealanders. NZTA may utilise a number of options when considering investing in small remote communities, such as full, partial or not investing. This process does not negate councils as Road Controlling Authorities from making investments outside of National Land Transport Fund co-funded projects as asset owners
